Torture, Secret Prisons, Indefinite Detentions, Secret Evidence. Is this the American Way? (Special Three Hours!)

September 20, 2006

(Archive)
Mark does his own show and then fills in for Guy James today.
A full three-hour discussion of the legality (or illegality) of Bush’s “techniques” in the War on Terror and precisely how Congress is working to make “torture” and “secret prisons” as American as baseball, apple pie, and the Soviet Gulag.
Call in! We have plenty of time today. Do you think these tactics are necessary to fight the so-called War on Terror?
Guest William Goodman, Legal Director of the Center for Constitutional Rights

There is absolutely no, I mean no public servant that should recieve a retirement, Severence whatsoever after pleading guilty to a corruption charge and spending 27 months locked up in the Hilton, and committing such crime while holding office. This is for Bob Ney as well as any other no matter Party affiliate.
    Does anyone think any differently?

The caller said “so what” to the death of “a couple thousand people” possible in a future attack.
Intimating that more than that many died on the highways last week.
Well I would like to see how flippant he is about the lives of other people if HIS OWN LOVED ONES were to die in an attack… or on the highway!
I think the man was rather cold hearted… quite!

    Hi Mark,
I found this article in today’s Spiegel about Berlin’s gay Mayor remarkable. He got reelected by a large margin on Sunday. Hes conservative opponant was staging photo ops with baby buggy on one hand and holding toddler in the other… blond wife by their sides…. typically all American… ehem… all German…
Guido Westerwelle, a young suave party chairman of the Free Democratic Party, a party rich people usually vote for, is openly gay too, and brings his partner to official functions. good going!!
Reverend Falwell… put that in your pipe and smoke it…
    Greetings from Angelika (Germany)
PS: You may give out the link http://www.spiegel.de then go to their International site. It’s in English…

Investigative reporter and bloger Josh Wolf was returned to custody today. The 9th cir. court of appeals granted the Governments motion to revoke his bail in the aftermath of that same courts ruling against Wolf’s rights as both a citizen and a journalist. Despite what you heard on the news this entire case is over a non existent crime
and the governments contention that journalists should work as arms of law inforcement. http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=i_team&id=4517281

Wolf was held in contempt because he refused to hand over unedited footage he had shot during an anti-g8 rally last year. Wolf did offer to show the judge in chambers all of his unedited footage but that offer was refused and Wolf placed into custody the first time two months ago. He was later granted bail pending appeal and even though Wolf intends to appeal his case further the Federal Government wants him locked up tight to send a message to journalists everywhere.
Shut up or live in prison.
If you live in the bay area and want to support Wolf a concert/speaker event is going on September 21 8-12 visit http://www.joshwolf.net/blog/
for more information or to make a donation to his legal fund.
