Triumph of the Democratic Congress!

August 2, 2007

Audio Archive
A major overhaul to attack corruption in Congress–an end to secret “holds” in the Senate, severe restrictions on lobbying and earmarks
Dramatically increasing health care for poor American children
First major homeland security legislation since 9/11
Overturning the Activist Right-Wing Supreme Court by allowing victims of pay discrimination to sue again
True, Bush may veto many of these bills, as he vetoed bills to withdraw from Iraq or fund embryonic stem cell research. But the battle is well and truly joined. And perhaps Americans will learn that only with a Democratic President joining the Democratic Congress can common sense reform and civil liberties return to the USA, along with an uprooting of the secrecy, bribery, and corruption so endemic in Republican Government.
Now, if we only had fair elections as well…..ah well, one step at a time.
ALSO Mark discusses whether liberals are too harsh on hypocritical fundamentalist preachers…

Yes Gravel may be loosing it. He even got some flack from the Daily Show (or was it the Cobert Report) for that dumb commercial of his. But at least he pushed to have the Pentagon Papers released. As far as Ron Paul goes, I have a big problem with his belief that free markets are the cure for everything, as if such things exist in the age of the all consuming mega corporations and their manipulation of the markets and media.

Marianne Williamson was one of the first people to put me on the air back in Feb. 2004 after I’d been on air less than a year. It was on Sirius and I subbed for her. Gordon first heard me then and has stayed with the Scoop ever since. Marianne is a peace activist and a wonderful kind and intelligent woman. She’s written oodles of books and you can google her.
As for Mike Gravel, Skip. I strongly disagree. Did you hear my interview with him? (If not, check out the archive.) He’s a kook!
But I do agree with Marianne’s sentiments. Mainstream politicians are afraid to tell the truth.

That’s a good one Gordon. The name isn’t familiar to me. Is she a friend?
What we need is someone who is a mix af all the best aspects of Ron Paul and Mike Gravel. Wouldn’t it be a blast if they ran together in a third independent party? Why not? Lincoln had friends and enemies in his cabinet.

Gordon, I apologize for my snarky comment above – I made it without reading the post. It is a good post. Thank you.
