Don't Boycott the Olympics [ISLM]

August 15, 2013

The appropriate response to Russia’s law making it a criminal offense for anyone to say anything good about gay people or being gay is not to boycott the Olympics.  It’s to encourage hundreds of Olympic athletes — gay and straight from all over the world — to say on Russian soil that there’s nothing wrong with being gay.  Civil disobedience to the unfair Russian law is the way to go.

Would Russia imprison 1/3 or more of the Olympic village and anger dozens of nations because athletes said “It’s OK to be gay”?
I don’t think so.
