It is a bill to address groups thinking. Sounds like a ‘thought crime bill’ to me.
“(7) Individuals prone to violent radicalization”
    – Who is to say what someone is ‘prone’ to? This can only mean what they ‘intend’ to do. This means what they are ‘thinking’ of doing. It puts legally innocent people under investigation and leverages abusive tactics in the process.
“(8) Any measure taken to prevent violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence and homegrown terrorism in the United States should not violate the constitutional rights”
    – This section right here says ‘should’. ‘Should’ means best not too but OK if needed. It is not OK to violate peoples rights Mark and you know that.
    Robt,
I think your scenario was spot on. If you can narrate one possible scenario like that the reality of this bill would be way worse. Mark’s only defense is that two wrongs make a right. He says that other agencies abuse their powers and so why fight it lets expand that abuse in yet another way.

This isn’t a “thought crime” bill. No crimes are punished by the bill. And the only thoughts that are examined are people who want to do violence.
    I also like this part:
`(7) Individuals prone to violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence span all races, ethnicities, and religious beliefs, and individuals should not be targeted based solely on race, ethnicity, or religion.
`(8) Any measure taken to prevent violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence and homegrown terrorism in the United States should not violate the constitutional rights, civil rights, or civil liberties of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents.”
Now, if we only had more courts that were willing to uphold our constitutional rights and civil liberties…..
But the only way to get that is a Democratic President.
