Debate Sunday with David Horowitz

September 18, 2005

(broadcast stream) (.mp3 download Right-click,”Save Target as”,”Save”)
Today, Mark debates former Radical Leftist and now Radical Right-Wing writer and political commentator, David Horowitz.
In addition to arguing strongly against what he believes to be liberal indoctrination in political universities, Horowitz is a fierce opponent of affirmative action. One of Horowitz’s many controversial quotes (as to why he is opposed to slavery reparations) is as follows:
“What about the debt blacks owe to America—to white America—for liberating them from slavery?”
Liberal activist Chip Berlet wrote an article for the Southern Poverty Law Center entitled “Into the Mainstream”, which named Horowitz’s Center for the Study of Popular Culture as one of an “array of right-wing foundations and think tanks support[ing] efforts to make bigoted and discredited ideas respectable.”
In an open letter to SPLC president Morris Dees, Horowitz urged Dees to remove the article from the SPLC website, alleging that it was “so tendentious, so filled with transparent misrepresentations and smears that if you continue to post the report you will create for your Southern Poverty Law Center a well-earned reputation as a hate group itself.”
I expect a contentious debate today.

The results are in: David Horowitz is a fucking punk–a mindless shout-monger spouting year-old right-wing drivel–with a mind that short-circuits when reason has to come into play
When facts stare him in the face–all he has the guts to do is–runaway
Runaway Horowitz–runaway to your inner-sanctum of festering thoughts–where the mold creeps deep into your psyche–and you feel emboldened again to strike out at sanity with the madness that attempts to dupe the stupid and mentally careless
You have just established the credibility of a loud-mouthed cockroach–runaway Horowitz–runaway into a crevice in the drywall

    “Sunday Listener”,
You stated your “belief” that David Horowitz was “cut off” despite the fact that I told you he hung up (twice in fact) on air and in this blog and gave you ways to confirm it. That’s calling me a liar.
You also said that you believe Horowitz would “state it that way.” Well, actually, if he’s honest, he wouldn’t. So why don’t you contact him?
I asked you if it was fair that if Horowitz agreed with me that he hung up, would you apologize for calling me a liar?
    And you considered that stupid.
Why is stupid to apologize if you wrongfully accuse someone (me) of lying to you?
You are typical, I’m afraid, in that like most bullies who cannot respond to intellectual argument — I include David Horowitz in this — when you are stymied for an answer, you resort to ad hominem attacks.
    – You accuse me of lying and refuse to apologize even if you discover I’m telling the truth.
    – You say I “don’t know much about American history and world events.” But you don’t specify a single misstatement you believe I made as to American history or world events.
    – You claim I have a “distorted and uninformed view” but fail to state how. You state that David Horowitz has a “sharp mind” but don’t explain why he was unable to respond to my quite lucid critique of his ridiculous statement a little more than 3 minutes into the program:
“My parents were Communists. That would put them right about in the center of the Democratic Party today….I think I know more than you about what Communists are about.”
Or his statement 12 minutes into the program:
“The Communists are now in the mainstream of the Democratic party.”
Goodbye, “Sunday Listener.” I’m glad that you don’t plan to listen to the show any more. People like you — who make accusations you can’t back up and don’t apologize when you are shown to be wrong — are not welcome here.
If you ever want to back up your assertions — even if you disagree with me — or at least lay off the unsupported ad hominem attacks, you are welcome back.
But if not, good bye and good riddance.

  • If not a liar, Sunday Listener is, at least, a goofball September 26, 2005 9:25 am

Sunday Listener–a curious little toad ye be–what lack of imagination shows through your sweating, semi-permeable skin–aligning with punks like Horowitz can only create warts of more than a moral nature
Frogs must look at your disposition and say, “Poor creature, thee.”
Perhaps it was a compliment for you to be called a liar–lying denotes some semblance of intelligence
Fade away–pitiable idiot–follow your coward- hero back into the shady oblivion from whence you both came
    Goofball
Perhaps the greatest sin of all
    is taking oneself too seriously.
    Lucifer’s fault was pride,
he couldn’t bow to the Father’s will,
    it was a bitter pill
    for him to acknowledge
    the destiny of man
    as higher than that
    of Angels.
    Humility is the cleanser
    for the ego’s mess,
    it washes out foolish illusion,
prepares us for a walk with God.

“Well then, Sunday Listener, you are calling me a liar.”
I see it’s congenital. You didn’t hear what Horowitz stated nor did you read what I wrote. You hear what you want to hear and read what you want to read. A curious way to live a life.
“I’m sorry David Horowitz does not feel up to debating me…”
I think he fully understands that he told you, a nobody in the world of medai debate, that you are an “idiot” for a reason. But you could call him and ask for a clarification I imagine. He clearly thinks, and likely knows, that you don’t know much about American history and world events. I think he pegged your distorted and uninformed view quite quickly. Sharp minds that do what he does can do that.
“Sunday Listener, when David Horowitz confirms that in fact he did hang up himself, will you be a man (or woman) and apologize to me for calling me a liar?”
If you can show where I called anyone a liar, perhaps.
    “Is that fair?”
No, it’s stupid. No wonder Horowitz called you “an idiot”.
