    Should We Bail Out Detroit?

No. Why not? In a word “Lada”.

That and the fact that the last “bailout” is going sooooooooo good.

The auto industry should be bailed out ONLY if every one of those gold plated toilet executives who made all those ultra stupid buisness decisions (Hummer, killing the electric car, etc) get completely wiped out of the system. Upper level managers should only have a few years in that position before being returned to the real world to do real work. I have seen how crap rises to the top in the aerospace corporations I have worked at. Since the Defense Department is totally dependent upon them for their weapons, bailouts will come in the form of more and more weapons that don’t work. Diplomacy would be a whole lot cheaper.

Tennesse lured in foreign auto makers by gifting tax exemptions, state provided NON UNION workers, lower pay and benefits to employees. I believe Tennessee donated state land to build the factories.

Every foreign auto from that plant sold. The profits go back to the foriegn country and employees get wages. They get tax breaks for years. When employees get sick, the state has to cover the health care or get the federal dollars to cover.

This is not FREE trade !

Lets compete for the lowest wages and benefits, shall we?

GM union has taken cuts in its last few contracts. Where are the corporate cuts when they got consessions from the union?

Those execs took those winning consessions and gave themselves insentive bonus for doing so well on negotiations.

The auto industry should get a bail out. Although they are asking for a loan unlike the Wall Street and the Banks.

Wall Street and the Banks are non union and they failed. So much for evil unions……
